Date Night Last Night {Talks About the Future}

Last night (yes, finally an evening date!), husband and I took the night to ourselves, left the pup at home, and hit the town singing along the way (we're so fun and romantic like that).  The plan was to treat ourselves to some dessert and talk about the future together.  We wanted to do this outside of the home so we wouldn't get too offtrack and to make it feel more like a treat.

We left the house with a notebook and pen, a laptop, and headed towards a favorite coffee shop of ours.

Unfortunately, we ended up getting there at 7:30pm thinking it closed at 9pm, but it actually closed at 8pm - only giving us 30 minutes to hang out.  BUT, there was live music that night, so we still got dessert, didn't bust out the notepad, and just enjoyed sitting there together for 30 minutes and listening to the music.

We thought about heading to another coffee shop to do our plans, but the idea of buying more hot drinks and then having to pack up again, we decided to just head home.  We still really wanted to have our planned conversation, so I lit a candle, set up a blanket on the floor and we chatted...till MIDNIGHT.  It was awesome.

I'm sure some of you talk about the future all the time and this doesn't seem like a date night to you, but for us?  It was.  We do talk about the future often, but it's always pieces of a conversation, gets interrupted, and never ends up with solutions or more importantly, prayer.

It was so nice to be reminded of how smart, brave, caring and strong my husband is.  It's easy to see his faults and mistakes when I am distracted by the present moment, but when I get to seriously sit and hear his heart (without my phone to distract me), it is beautiful and I wish I paid better attention daily.

Our future may not go exactly as we planned it out last night, but boy, I'm sure glad I get to do it with him.  God is so, so good to us and I'm so grateful for this life I've been given.
