We started it our first day of marriage.
We knew we wanted to be intentional about spending time together in the Word. We also wanted to be challenged in our faith as a couple.
Yes, we go to church together, but we also wanted something more intimate. Something between just us two and the Lord.
Before bed every night, we decided to read scripture together. Since our wedding day, we've been reading a Psalm each night. We've been through it multiple times now that we've been married for over a year, but it doesn't get old. And someday we'll probably switch which book we read, but for now, we're encouraged by reading Psalms together every night before bed.
In the mornings, we read My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. This devotional has really challenged us and it is fun to process those thoughts together. We don't always get to read this book together because husband gets up at 5am (no, thank you), but we both are reading the same thing each morning, and that is special in itself. I highly recommend this book for anyone, not just couples.
In fact, I highly recommend you and your love read together. Most importantly, read the scriptures together - it's pretty awesome. It's been really great for our first year of marriage and I know that it will always be a priority because of how powerful it can be.
It's a beautiful thing.
This is day 11 of the series "31 Days on becoming a new wife." I hope you'll journey with me as I reflect on my first year as a Mrs! Click on the button to see a list of the rest of the posts.

My husband and I read together also. I love the time we spend together that way. We are currently reading Scripture together, and we just started reading a marriage book.
