...On Vacationing

Our first married vacation was, of course, our honeymoon.  We spent two nights at a gorgeous resort right down the street from where we got married and then flew out to Nuevo Vallarta for a week of laying in the sun, overeating, and enjoying our new status as newlyweds.

All-inclusive resort for your honeymoon?  I highly recommend it.  It was such a beautiful week not having to care about anything except each other.  We didn't have to think about spending money because it was already paid for.  We didn't have anywhere to be.  We could just be.  And be together.

Vacationing looks different for everyone.  Some people want to do nothing but relax and enjoy the people around them while others want to go out and explore and see everything and do everything they possibly can.  Put those two people together?  This can cause a really frustrating vacation.

Over the past year, husband and I have been able to do a lot of traveling.  I wouldn't call it all vacationing, but we've done a lot of traveling together.  We've had a lot of opportunities to either relax or explore and so far, it's been awesome.

How?  We have learned to communicate expectations.  How cliche is that line?  I know.  But it works!  When we talk about what we want out of our vacation, we are able to better serve the other according to their needs.

When we went to Colorado for my brother's graduation?  We both decided we just wanted to relax and spend time with family.

When we went to Anaheim for the Giant's game?  Husband knew I wanted to check out everything and do as much as I could.

When we went camping for our anniversary?  We knew we wanted to have a mix of relaxing time and active time.

And it's been good.  We love our vacation time.  It's not filled with arguments and misunderstandings.

And that's how it should be.

Now preparing for a vacation?  That's something we still need to work on...

This is day 3 of the series "31 Days on becoming a new wife."  I hope you'll journey with me as I reflect on my first year as a Mrs!  Click on the button to see a list of the rest of the posts.
