Telling the Family

I realized I haven't shared how we told our family about baby G.  Telling our family that we were expecting our first little one was one of the most exciting ways to start off this journey.  We found out we were pregnant around 4 weeks and we knew we wanted to wait to tell until we at least had an ultrasound - which wouldn't be until 8 weeks.  I always thought that having that little secret between husband and I would be so fun, but it definitely was not as fun as I had imagined!  You see, I'm a total sharer - an over-sharer - and keeping that secret from family that I tell everything to was KIIIILLLLINGGG ME.  But, we were able to make it and I never spilled the beans too early!  A proud moment, if I do say so myself.

We waited until the week of Valentines Day (around 10 weeks) so that we could give them a Valentines card from "the 3 of us."  We only planned to do this for family, but since we ended up going on a trip with some friends on actual Valentine's Day, we decided to make them a card too.  I figured my decline of a glass of red wine would be a dead giveaway...they know me better than that. :)

Their reactions were so fun.  It was so special to see my mom tear up despite it being her 12th grandchild (I'm serious, Baby G is #12 on my side!), and to see my siblings get really excited for me. This is a HUGE time in husband and my life and I am so thankful for people who celebrate with us.

I did mail a card to my brother in Japan and was hoping that he'd open it before we told him, but he's apparently incredibly lazy and never checks his mail, so after 2 weeks of it sitting in his mailbox, we had to just tell him over FaceTime.  That bum!

Baby G is going to have so much family that loves him.  He is already one lucky dude!

  2. Super cute idea. And not telling your family until almost 10 weeks? I can't imagine how hard that was. Would have KILLED me to do that. :)
