Spicing Up My China Hutch
I love my China hutch. Bart and I got it at an Estate Sale back in the fall (side note: sooo excited for yard sale season coming up!) and it has just been perfect!
It's been fun to display our China we got at our wedding, too, which by the way, we've used at every special event yet (Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversary, Getting a New Job celebrations, etc.). But since our China is just white and silver, I've been trying to spice it up a little to go with my yellow and white kitchen.
I love my little kitchen. It's small, but it does the trick for us. We have white cabinets and my main color is yellow, with a few green accents here and there. It's definitely a work in progress (isn't everything?), but maybe I'll give you a home tour some time...
Anyways, I have seen a lot of striped backdrops for cabinets and shelves on Pinterest and decided I needed to paint some on the back of this hutch. So I finally did!
Ace Hardware was giving away free pints of their Clark+Kensington paint (which they do this often so keep your eyes peeled if you want some!), so I grabbed myself a free pint of Stella D'oro yellow paint and begun!
Since the top part of this hutch is mounted to the wall, Bart so graciously helped me detach it and carry it to the backyard where I could lay it flat for painting.
As you can see, the back already has boards that make it perfect for painting stripes. Luckily, I didn't have to measure and draw my own stripes, that would have been a disaster.
Anyways, I had to tape around the boards that I wanted to paint. This was a bit tricky considering there were little divets in between each board that I didn't want to paint. I probably spent more time taping than I did actually painting.
Once I got all of the tape on, I began to paint, one section at a time until I had two coats on each.
When I was finished painting, I put it back in the kitchen and re-attached it to the wall. I didn't want to leave it outside to dry with the fear of a leaf or dirt flying on it and messing up the paint.
Once it was fully dry, I took a razor and ran it along the edges of the tape so that when I peeled it off, it wouldn't take the paint with it.
Voila! I was very happy with it. Isn't this fun? Now on to adding my China...
So happy.
{What have you done to spice up your kitchen?}
Love it Cass! You are so creative.. :) I have done nothing to spice up our kitchen. Luke did build a new kitchen table and I am loving that!!
