Friends, do I have a treat for you! Last week I shared a simple salad recipe from my wonderful MIL, so this week I'm sharing a simple recipe from my one and only mother. She is an incredible chef and I call her weekly asking for help in the kitchen. Have you made her lasagna yet? You need to.
She hosted Easter brunch this year and by the grace of God, this syrup entered into my life.
I mean, I had enough to be thankful for that day given we were celebrating the gift of His Son who rose from the dead to save us ALL, but just an added touch to this day, was this syrup.
Brown sugar. Bananas.
Brilliant.
It's actually a Sara Lee recipe found here (we love the Food Network!). So if you're feeling inclined for a fancy breakfast...now's the time and this is the recipe. I don't believe the toast was from her recipe, but I'm sure that's incredible, too.
I hope you all had a happy Easter! Sorry, this is being posted so late. I seriously need to get on my game with this whole Tasty Tuesday thing. Happy Tuesday!
Brown Sugar Banana Syrup
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
2 tablespoons molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
2 bananas, cut into 1/2-inch slices
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
2 tablespoons molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
2 bananas, cut into 1/2-inch slices
In a small saucepan, combine butter, pumpkin pie spice, molasses,
brown sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a boil, add bananas then
lower heat and let simmer for 3 minutes. Remove syrup from heat, cover
and keep warm. Serve over French toast.
It also saved pretty well. We had leftovers the next day for breakfast and it was still delicious. Just store it in a sealed container in the fridge and you're set.
Oh wow, this looks delicious! We like to make banana pancakes...would the banana syrup on those be too much of a good thing? Worth experimenting with, I think! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely be trying this!! Looks so yummy. Also reminds me of my favorite desert - flambe bananas! I saw Jacques Pepin make them on PBS, and I've been hooked ever since. I can't wait for my bananas to get spots :) haha
ReplyDeleteIf you google Pepin flambe banana's you can find the recipe.
Ooh thanks, Diane! Sounds delish! And Terra, in my opinion, you can't have too much banana! That sounds amazing to me!
