I've been super into walking lately.
I'm not even sure why I'm writing about this, but I just kind of feel like it.
I've struggled with exercise ever since I graduated college. In college, I had easy access to a fully equipped gym and I had planned breaks during my day that I could go work out and it wouldn't throw off my schedule, force me to wake up super early or delay dinner (because the good Lord knows I do not like delaying dinner). But once I joined the real world, it seemed like there were only two options: either wake up super early to exercise, or exercise super late at night; neither of which sounded appealing.
I have gone in phases of doing really well, like when husband and I did p90x for 90 days straight, or when we were doing tons of hiking together in preparation for Half Dome, or when I was training for my half marathon. But when there isn't a specific goal in the future (besides to live a healthy life), I struggle.
But I've found it. And it's walking. And I love it.
I take Benny on long walks during my lunch break or after work. I get fresh air, I get a break from looking at a computer screen, and it's so much easier on my body.
Sometimes my mom will join me or even one of my sisters with their little ones and I not only get the exercise, but I get some quality time with people I love.
I feel like a genius. Why have I not just walked my whole life?? It's so much more enjoyable.
...just some thoughts I had today...
I guess it also helps that I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and experience sunshine year round...I'm lucky and I know it.
Walking is my favorite! When it is warmer and daylight longer, my Dad, Shelby and I try to get a long walk in most afternoons. It is so hard during the winter, but we make it a point to bundle up and go each weekend. I wish I could do it more!
