Date Night Last Night {Try Something New}

We've been trying our best to get back into date nights every week.  We haven't been planning them ahead of time, but we've somehow been able to get them in.  It's so nice to be back in a schedule where life isn't so crazy and we actually have the time and energy to block out a couple hours for some 'us' time.  It seriously feels like a huge treat to go on date nights...especially with this guy...who also bought me flowers that day.

This week we decided to try out a new type of food.  We love all kinds of Asian foods, but neither of us had ever tried Taiwanese.  To be honest, neither of us really knew what Taiwanese food was, but when I found a place on Yelp while searching through the best cheap eats in our area, we decided we should probably go check out Mama Chef

Have you ever had Taiwanese food?  I'm still not entirely sure what makes it Taiwanese, but I do know that it is absolutely delicious.  Husband got a ground pork soup with rice noodles and I got the special beef soup as recommended by our waitress.  We were, of course, the only white people in the restaurant, which is clue #1 that it is going to be authentic, and everything on the menu was sooo cheap!  Seriously, people, our final bill (and we were stuffed when we were done and had leftovers for lunch the next day), was....

wait for it.......

$11.47.

You're welcome.

Locals:  GET ON THAT!

It was actually really fun to try out a new food we knew nothing about, to go without a friend that could read the menu or recommend anything, and to look like total rookies when it came to ordering.  We got to do it together and it felt like an adventure of some sorts.

Have you ever tried out a new type of food without going with someone experienced?

Happy Date Night!

  1. Hi Cassie! I loved this post- we're always trying new foods and I have yet to try Tawainese... we'll definitely be adding that to the list! Have you ever tried Ethiopian? There's a great place in downtown Campbell. The food is tasty and the whole eating experience is quite different (in a good way). I hope you're doing well. I really enjoy your blog :)

  2. Thanks, Sarah! And no, I haven't tried Ethiopian, but I think someone once told me you get to eat with your hands a lot. I'm putting it on my list right now! Is it Addis?
